Warriors Swept in Afternoon Doubleheader with Simpson

Myers Throws 11 Total Innings, Warriors Score Just One Run on the Day

ROCKLIN, Calif. – After a long weekend of Softball up in Redding this past weekend, the Warriors hit the field once more on Monday for a doubleheader against old rivals Simpson University. Jessup's offense did not look to be at full strength Monday, as the Redhawks swept both games of the matinee doubleheader.

GAME ONE

Monday's doubleheader started off well, but it took a quick turn to hand Jessup a 6-1 loss. Senior Jessica Myers (Modesto, CA) got the starting nod in the opener, and looked very strong as she held the Redhawks scoreless through the first six innings. She would throw a complete game in which she struck out three and walked just one, but a rough seventh inning sent her home with the loss.

Jessup took the lead in the top of the sixth when junior Kyla Cisneros (Visalia, CA) drove in the Warriors lone run with an RBI single. Leading by one in the final inning, the Warriors would allow 6 runs to cross the plate in the seventh on 5 hits and 2 errors. The Warriors would go down in order in the bottom half, ending game one with the late loss.

Cisneros finished the game 2-for-3 with an RBI. The Warriors managed to record just 4 hits in the loss. For Simpson, Avey Carlye received the win, tossing 7 innings while allowing just one run (unearned) with no walks and 7 strikeouts.

GAME TWO

Game two was much closer than game one, but the Jessup offense was nonexistent as they were shutout 2-0. The Warriors managed just 2 hits in Monday's finale, as Paris Hallums picked up the win for Simpson behind 7 innings and 13 strikeouts with just 3 walks.

Simpson got on the board in the second inning, with both runs coming with two outs in the frame. Sophomore Shelbi Graifman (Antioch, CA) went just 3 innings in game two. Graifman allowed just 2 runs on 3 hits, but she would walk two and hit five batters. Myers would pitch the final four innings, finishing the day with a total of 11 innings pitched.

The season continues on Feb. 23 when Jessup travels to Redding for another doubleheader against Simpson. Following that, Jessup will begin conference play on Feb. 27 at home against Hope International. The doubleheader at Simpson is scheduled to begin at noon.
