COSTA MESA, Calif. - Following their two-game split at Biola University on Friday, the Warriors traveled down the road to take on the Vanguard Lions in a two-games series that look all too familiar to Friday's contests on Saturday.
With an offensive blast in game one, the Warriors were the first to push a pair of runs across for an early lead and victory over the Lions (5-2), but in game two the Lions found the board first taking a 2-0 lead before the Warriors tallied a late run in the seventh, but suffer the loss (2-1) for a split in Costa Mesa.
GAME ONE
The Warriors started off strong with two runners reaching on walks and
Kyla Cisneros coming in with a single to left field to move the runners into scoring position. Taking advantage of a Lion error,
Corina Salinas took off on a wild pitch to score the Warriors first run of the game as starting pitcher
Shelbi Graifman brought in Cisneros on a single up the middle.
With the early 2-0 lead, Graifman took the circle for the Warriors to start the series pitching a complete game, allowing only 2 runs on 8 hits with 6 strikeouts. Graifman improving to 6-7 on the season, collecting her 6th win in 11 starts thus far.
The Lions would score in the bottom of the third on a throwing error, but Graifman finished the inning with a strikeout looking and no more damage was done with two runners on.
In the top of the fifth, the Warriors would add another run on a two-out rally led by a quartet of singles in
Tessa Harris, Salinas, and Cisneros to bring in the run with a hit to left field to score Harris.
Harris would find her way again in the action in the following frame with a two-run double to score
Ali Medina and Graifman for the final 5-2 victory over the Lions.
GAME TWO
Despite 8 hits in game two, the Warriors were unable to turn them into runs leaving high 10 runners on base.
Stephanie Scott hit things off in the bottom of the fifth with a lead-off single, and Cisneros accompanied with a two-out single followed by runners advancing to scoring position on steals, but they were unable to hit the board as the inning expired with a strikeout.
Scott still leading the fight came alive in her next at bat in the final frame leading off with a double down the left-field line. With runners on first and third, Graifman came in to pinch hit and singled to score Scott for the solo run of the game for the Warriors.
With Cisneros stranded on third, the Warriors dropped the second contest to Vanguard 2-1.
The Warriors will host Menlo College this coming Saturday at Azevedo Park with the first pitch of the doubleheader set to release at 12 pm.
