RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The Warriors traveled to their final non-conference opponent La Sierra this week before stepping back into conference play this weekend against No. 20 Hope International. With the pair of wins over the Golden Eagles, Jessup softball advances to 19-9, 2-1 with the set of wins going to
Shelbi Graifman in the circle and an army of hitters.
Jessup would hit the board first in the top of the second with a leadoff single by
Natalie Basaldua, as
Taya Ruiz followed with a double and
Jenna Patterson brought the duo in to score with a hit to center.
Stephanie Scott would keep things rolling with a double to bring in Patterson and the final run scored on an error by the Golden Eagles.
It was a quick one-two-three inning for starter
Shelbi Graifman in the first three frames as La Sierra tallied their first hit of the game in the bottom of the fourth.
The final run for the Warriors would reach in the top of the fifth as with bases loaded and the 5-0 lead walked in.
Graifman would get her 16th win of the season with four strikeouts in her four-inning start.
Brooke Sarro would come in to relieve the senior, allowing just three hits with three strikeouts as the Warriors took game one 5-0.
The senior would return to the circle in game two pitching the complete seven innings allowing just three runs on five hits with seven strikeouts.
The Warriors would start things off early again with a set of runs in the opening frame as
Abbie Lewis started things off with a single and Graifman brought her in with a hit to shallow center. The second run of the inning reached on an error by the Golden Eagles for an early 2-0 advantage.
Another run would be put up by the Warriors in the third and the fourth with the Eagles continuing to fight pushing their own across the plate in the fourth as the Warriors held the 4-1 lead.
The fifth inning would bring excitement from both teams with Jessup starting things off with a three-run frame. Basaldua and Ruiz would get on with a hit each and Patterson load the bases reaching on a fielder's choice and Basaldua coming in to score on a throwing error. Another error by the Golden Eagles would push a run across for Jessup and Scott would bring in the final run, now up 7-1.
La Sierra would light up the board for with two runs in the fifth but it would remain 7-3 to the finish as the Warriors swept the Golden Eagles in the doubleheader.
The Lady Warriors will hit the diamond tomorrow taking on nationally ranked (20) Hope International at Biola University, first pitch of game one slated for 1 pm.
