ATHERTON, Calif. - In an early conference matchup to start the week, the Warriors returned to the diamond to face conference foe, Menlo College, a recently nationally recognized team and head of the leaderboard for the GSAC standings to start the day. The Warriors would take game one with a sixth-inning surge, 10-3 but a late comeback in game two would favor the Oaks for the 7-6 victory in extra innings as the two teams split on the day.
Corina Salinas was the one to lead things off in the opening inning and that continued throughout the game starting with her double in the top of one, as
Abbie Lewis kept things going with an RBI-single to get on the board 1-0. The Oaks would quickly answer back with a two-run shot over the left field wall in the following frame to take their only lead of the game (2-1).
The Warriors started where they left off in the top of the third with Salinas knocking her second double of the game to get things going, coming in to score on a wild pitch.
Shelbi Graifman would follow suit with a double of her own to center field, coming in for the go-ahead run off a single by
Taya Ruiz, now up 3-2.
It would be in the sixth inning that the Warriors busted things open tallying six hits while pushing the same number of runs across the plate. With bases loaded, one out, Salinas would come through again with a two-RBI single, with Lewis singling to load the bases for Graifman in the box. Another single up the middle by Graifman would bring another pair in, followed by
Natalie Basaldua with a single to the pitcher. Another two runs would walk in for the 9-2 lead headed into the final inning.
Each team would add another run to close out the first game of the series with the Warriors hitting their way to a 10-3 victory thanks to a second-best 16 hits. Graifman collects her 19th win of the season allowing just three runs on ten hits. Salinas went a perfect 5-for-5 with a pair of RBI's.
The ladies picked up where they left off on the Oaks' diamond putting the first run on the board in the top of the first inning. Lewis started things off with a single, not staying long as she made her way to second on a steal and in to score on a single by Basaldua to right center. Ruiz would follow-up with a single to bring in Graifman who walked for the 2-0 lead in the opening frame.
A trio of singles to start the top of the second and an error by the Oaks would be in favor of the Warriors now up 5-0. Menlo would battle back in the bottom of the fifth with a solo run and another in the sixth but not before the Warriors answered back tallying one of their own in the top of the frame coming from the familiar Lewis for her second RBI of the day, now up 6-2 headed into the final inning.
Heading into the final frame, pinch hitter
Raechel Hooper started things with a single up the middle but the Warriors would leave a runner stranded as the Oaks had a comeback inning to tie it up after regulation 6-6.
The extra time would favor home field as the Warriors were unable to push one across in the top of eight but the Oaks brought in the international tiebreaker runner who started on second after a sac bunt and a blooper to left field to end the game.
The Warriors drop to fourth in the conference now 21-11, 4-3 headed into the Easter holiday break. They will return to home field for the first time since February 24th to take on Arizona Christian and (20) Hope International on April 6th and 7th.
