Warriors Out-Fly Hawks in Makeup Series

Warriors collect 27 hits in two-game sweep

ROCKLIN, Calif. - In another early week series, the Warriors welcome San Diego Christian on Tuesday, just three short days after the series in San Diego against the same Hawks were they took the doubleheader 2-0. Continuing in the same fashion, the Warriors run-ruled the Hawks in game one 12-0 in the fifth, but San Diego took an early fight back in the second game where Jessup came back late in the game for the 10-8 victory.

With today's win, the Warriors are tied with GSAC NorCal foe, Menlo College in the conference standings both 10-6, while Jessup improved to 27-14 overall. The final scheduled matchup for the regular season is slated for this duo to battle it out on Senior Day this Saturday starting at 12 pm for the doubleheader.

Today, an early lead in the bottom of the first was the spark that ignited the Warriors to blanking the Hawks in the series opener. Things started with Graifman striking out the first three batters swinging to hand it off to the Warriors offense. A pair of walks to open it up would put runners on as Natalie Basaldua would bring in the first run with an RBI single, and Jenna Patterson would follow suit with a double making it 2-0. The final two runs of the inning would come from a single by Jena Ovens to clear the bases as the Warriors took an early 4-0 jump.

Graifman would add another strikeout to the column in the second and come in to score in the bottom of the frame as she took her base on a hit by pitch and came in off a double by Basaldua now 2-for-2 with 2RBI's.

The rally continued in the inning to follow as they extended the lead 8-0 as Taya Ruiz started things off with a double, coming in to score on a throwing error by the Hawks. Ovens would single and score on a sac-fly, while Abbie Lewis brought the final run in of the inning with a single.

In the top of the fourth, the Hawks would get their first hit of the game, ruining the perfect game, but Graifman would follow up with her sixth strikeout of the inning with no damage.

A triple from Ruiz would push the Warriors to double digits in the bottom of the fourth 10-0 scoring Basaldua and Patterson. Ovens would get the sac-fly RBI and Salinas doubled to close it out at 12-0.

Brooke Sarro finished in the circle for the Warriors allowing just one hit as Jessup took down the Hawks 12-0.

Roles would reverse come game two, as the Hawks found their spark and countered the Warriors early 5-1 lead after the first. A single, double and triple would lead things off in the opening frame, 3-1, and an error and walk from San Diego would give Jessup a comfortable lead.

But the Hawks found their groove in the bottom of the fourth taking the 6-5 lead from the Warriors. It wouldn't take long for the Warriors to rally back as a fifth-inning surge was led by Stephanie Scott and Salinas' singles and an error would load the bases as Graifman walked to bring a run in to tie it up. Basaldua would hit her third double of the game to push a pair of runs across as the Warriors regained the lead 8-6.

Another pair of runs would be in Jessup's favor in the bottom of the sixth as Scott hit a 2 RBI triple to make it 10-6. Nevertheless, the Hawks would answer back with their own two runs but came up short as the Warriors took it with a 10-8 final.

Graifman led the Warriors with a pair of wins today from the circle continuing her career-high win season now with 24. Offensively Basaldua led going a perfect 7-for-7 across the two games with 4 doubles and 5 RBI's.
