LINCOLN, Calif. - Taking on the second ranked opponent in the same number of days the Jessup softball team hosted No. 10, the Oregon Tech Owls for another doubleheader before conference play begins next week. The Owls would take game one, but the Warrior fight was strong in game two as the Warriors had bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh but came up short as the Owls took the day 2-0.
An early lead for the Owls would see two-plus runs in the box score of the first three innings, while the Warrior struggled to push one across until the third inning. Back-to-back triples by
Abbie Lewis and
Jena Ovens would ignite the Warriors offense but only a single run would cross as Jessup trailed 7-1.
The Owls would capitalize in the final inning of the game to take it 19-1.
In game two the Warriors continued to battle as Lewis started things off with a single, but the Owls would hold the 2-0 lead after the opening frame. Another two runs would cross for the visiting team in the third inning.
In Warrior fashion, Jessup rallied with three singles to bring in the only run of the game, but not before two-out bases loaded opportunity, the final hit of the game just shy of home run territory by
Natalie Basaldua.
Lewis led the Warriors on the day going 4-for-6 with a triple,
Jena Ovens and
Chelsie Kam-Aweau collected the pair of RBI's on the day.
Jessup will return to the diamond this coming week to take on their first GSAC matchup with Arizona Christian on Friday and Ottawa University on Saturday.
