Jessup Drops Both Games of Friday’s Round Robin

Warriors put up a late comeback in game two; Jessup will be back on the diamond against the same squads tomorrow

LINCOLN, Calif. – The William Jessup Warriors were back at Foskett Regional Park on Friday for a pair of games against Eastern Oregon and (RV) Simpson in the final homestand before beginning conference play. The Warriors fought hard on the diamond but lost both games by a score of 6-4.

The first game of the day was a back and forth battle against the Eastern Oregon Mountaineers. The Mountaineers got on the board first, striking with an RBI single down the left-field line in the top of the first inning.

Jessup responded well, tying things up in the second with an RBI single of its own from Aaliyah Pineda. Eastern Oregon took a 3-1 lead with a two-spot in the third, but Jessup roared back to take the lead with the help of a two-run homer by Sam Lorge.

Once again, the later innings weren't kind to Jessup as the Mountaineers plated three runs in the final two innings to hold on to a 6-4 victory.

Maddy Ybarra was the defensive star in game one, throwing out two runners from right field to end the top half of the fifth and seventh innings.

Game two began as a pitchers duel, as both Jessup and Simpson were scoreless through the first two innings.

The Red Hawks got the scoring started, plating three runs in the third inning to jump out to a 3-0 lead. Jessup got one back in the bottom half thanks to an RBI double off the bat of Kaylee Winn.

Simpson built on its lead in the fifth, extending the advantage to 6-1, leaving Jessup in a bind.

The Warriors came together and started the seventh inning strong, as Hailey Hiett reached first with a single to lead off the bottom frame. Winn brought Hiett 60 from home with a single before Lorge launched her second homer of the day to close the gap to 6-4.

Unfortunately for Jessup, the lights went out, literally, on the comeback attempt. Once the lights turned back on, Simpson recorded the final two outs and preserved the 6-4 win.

Jessup will be back in action tomorrow against Eastern Oregon and (RV) Simpson once again. First pitch against Eastern Oregon is scheduled for noon, while it is scheduled for 4 PM against Simpson.
