Baiba Celma has grown through the ranks of Jessup Athletics at a rapid pace, as in the summer of 2023 she was promoted to Assistant Athletic Director of Compliance. Celma took over the compliance duties just one year earlier, having transitioned from an Assistant Coach for Jessup Track & Field.
Â
During her first year as the Athletics Compliance Administrator, Celma worked hand-in-hand with VP for Athletics Lance Von Vogt on Jessup’s application to join NCAA Division II. She also drafted Jessup’s first compliance manual, a key component to Jessup’s transition.
Â
Celma works with all coaches and administrators throughout Jessup Athletics, educating them on rules and regulations, while also dealing with student-athlete eligibility. She also introduced the ARMS system to Jessup, helping streamline many of the documents and forms coaches are required to update.
Â
During her time as a coach, the Warriors saw great success, including a GSAC Track & Field Championship by the women’s team in 2021. Celma oversaw the jumps and multi-events, both seeing Jessup student-athletes qualify for the NAIA National Championship during her tenure.
Â
Coach Celma played a large role in Jessup’s recruiting efforts, along with the day-to-day operations of the track program.
Â
Before coming to Jessup, Celma worked for her alma mater as an assistant coach for the Sacramento State Hornets. The Hornets’ head coach at the time was current Jessup head coach Jeff Magley. Celma worked with the high jumpers and assisted with day-to-day operations of the program. She began her coaching career in Sacramento as a volunteer coach in 2013, transitioning to a full-time assistant coach in 2016.
Â
Celma competed collegiately for the Hornets, winning the Big Sky Championship in 2012 (heptathlon). She was also an All-Conference selection in the triple jump, javelin, and pentathlon. When she graduated, Celma held the second-highest score in the heptathlon (5,279 points) and third-highest pentathlon score (3,686) in Sacramento State history.
