ROCKLIN, Calif. – After a tough match last night, the Warriors had a very quick turnaround today as they played host to the Mustangs of The Master's College. Unlike they did in Friday's match, the Warriors got off to a slow start Saturday as they fell to the Mustangs in just three sets (25-16, 25-19, 25-15).
The first set was a slow start for Jessup, as the Mustangs quickly went up 9-4. The Warriors could not trim the deficit any lower than five throughout the rest of the set as Master's seemed to be in control. The Mustangs took the first set by the final of 25-16.
Jessup came out in the second set fired up, as they went on a 4-0 run to start. However, the Mustangs quickly countered to even the match at 5-5. The set stayed even for the most part, with both sides eventually deadlocked at 18-18. At that point Master's went on a strong 7-1 run to take the second set 25-19.
Although they were looking to avoid being swept, Jessup couldn't get off to a fast start in the third set as Master's quickly went ahead 5-1. The Warriors chipped away at the lead a little bit, bringing the score to 10-7, but Master's then quickly scored nine unanswered points to put the set out of reach. The Mustangs would close out the final set with a 25-15 victory.
The leader for Jessup Saturday was sophomore Kassidy Huevelhorst (Yuba City, CA). Huevelhorst recorded a total of 8 kills on 10 total attacks. She also added a block for her totals. Freshman Makenzie Reeder-Esparza recorded 5 kills.
With the loss, the Warriors overall record on the season now falls to 6-15. Jessup's record in Golden State Athletic Conference play moves to 1-8.
Jessup gets back to action on Friday when they hit the road for Southern California to take on Hope International University. Friday will be the first of a three-match road trip. The Warriors will not return home to the Warrior Arena until November 6 when they host Senior Day against Vanguard University.
