LA MIRADA, Calif. – After an all-out battle last night, the Warriors were forced to have a quick turnaround as they took on the nation's top-ranked team Saturday, the Biola University Eagles. Jessup struggled to gain any momentum Saturday, as they fell in a three set sweep (25-10, 25-11, 25-16).
Biola came out swinging in the first set, going on a quick 4-0 run to start the match. They would then add onto their lead, extending to a commanding 13-4 advantage. The Warriors went on a few runs to try and shorten the gap, but it wasn't enough as Biola took the opener 25-10.
Set two started a lot like set one, as Biola quickly went up 6-1. The Warriors did put some fight into this set, cutting the deficit to four at 15-11. From that point on it was all Eagles as they scored 10 consecutive points to take the second set 25-11.
Hoping to avoid a sweep, Jessup held their ground in the start of the third set. Several times the Warriors got the set within just one point, but at 10-9 Biola would begin to pull away. The Eagles won six straight points to give themselves a gap, as they eventually won the match with a third set victory of 25-16.
The leader for Jessup Saturday was freshman Carlie Mills (Scottsdale, AZ). Mills recorded a total of 5 kills while also adding 4 digs to her credit. Junior Jennah Richmond (Napa, CA) and freshman Makenzie Reeder-Esparza (Sacramento, CA) recorded 3 blocks each.
With the loss, the Warriors fall to now 6-17 overall on the season, and 1-11 in Golden State Athletics Conference play while Biola improves to 22-2. The season continues on Friday when they travel to the Bay Area to take on Menlo College. That match is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
