Early Mishap Proves Crucial in Lady Warriors’ 1-0 Loss

Warriors Score Own Goal for Match’s Only Score, Still Battle all 90-Minutes

LA MIRADA, Calif. – Hoping to get back to their winning ways from the beginning of the season, the Lady Warriors took on the 14th ranked Biola University Eagles down in Southern California Thursday. It was a battle back-and-forth for all 90-minutes in Thursday night's match; but unfortunately for the Warriors the deciding factor was an early mishap by Jessup.

Thursday night's match started with about as sour a taste as you can get. Not even four minutes into the match the Warriors suffered a crucial mishap as they put the ball into their own net. It was the second own goal in as many games for the Warriors, and Thursday's error proved to be disastrous.

Jessup did not hang their heads for long on the mishap, as they went back to business right away. The Warriors offensive effort produced 5 shots in the first half, but they entered the half trailing by the lone goal.

In the second half, Jessup never seemed to show any panic in their demeanor as they continued to attack. The Warriors looked very calm in the match's closing 45-minutes, but they never seemed to really put their foot on the gas pedal and go for the equalizing goal.

Jessup nearly allowed another goal late in the game. With six-minutes remaining, Biola fired a free kick into the box. The ball deflected off a Warrior defender towards the goal line before it was saved by goalkeeper Allison Marlow (Huntington Beach, CA). The ball looked like it could have crossed the line for another own goal, but after a discussion by the referees it was determined that there was no goal. Jessup tried to keep the luck going and attack late, but nothing fell as the match ended 1-0.

The freshman Marlow finished out the night playing all 90-minutes in net, recording 9 saves in the loss. Offensively, the Warriors were only able to record two second half shots to finish with seven total for the match.

The loss pushes the Warriors to 7-4 overall on the season, with their record in GSAC play sitting at 0-3. The season continues with a noon kickoff at Hope International University (7-2-2, 2-2 GSAC) on Saturday. Jessup returns to their home pitch on Thursday October 15 when both the men's and women's sides play host to Arizona Christian University.
