Klamath Falls (Ore.) - The Jessup women's basketball team (4-2) faced another tough opponent for their final game at the Midland Empire Classic Saturday in the form of Southern Oregon University (5-0). Coming off the heal of their season's first loss, Jessup wasn't able to manage a rebound losing 77-52.
As in the previous night's game, the warriors struggled to post points to the scoreboard. The Warriors shot just 7% from the field in the first half and 7% from behind the 3-point arc throughout the game. Again; however, Jessup shot a respectable 70% from the free throw line.
Even after heading to the locker room with a 13 point deficit, Jessup players emerged from half-time with a pal palpable determination to see the game through to the end. Better shot selection in the second half resulted in an increase to 38% field goal percentage. Despite their newly found offensive pace, the Warriors were still unable to slow the offensive tide of Southern Oregon and the Raiders would take the game 77-52.
Senior Crystal Sewell (Ophir, CA) rallied the Warriors with a double-double performance of 16 points and 11 rebounds. Southern Oregon was also led by a senior in Ashley Claussen who posted 14 points to the board. Despite losses being posted in each game of the tournament at Oregon Tech, the Jessup coaching staff remains positive in the lessons the team garnered from the experience.
"Since the beginning of season, we have stressed the importance of improving every single day of practice and in games," said head coach Emilie Blate. "We faced very talented teams in the OIT tournament and the challenge was a great opportunity for us to learn and keep focusing on the details. We are looking forward to playing the next 5 out of 7 games on our home floor."
Jessup returns home from the Oregon road trip to play Corban University in Warrior Arena on Tuesday, Nov. 24 at 2 p.m.
