ROCKLIN, Calif. – The William Jessup University Warriors (4-3) played host to NCAA Division II opponents the (23) Chico State University Wildcats (5-1) for an exhibition contest. A slow start out of the gates, backed by a 20-5 first half run from the Wildcats, proved to be the key factors as the Warriors fell 78-58.
Tuesday's matchup was the back end of a two-year, home-and-home series between the Warriors and Wildcats. Both Jessup and Chico State squared off in Chico last year for the first meeting of this two-year series, with the Wildcats taking the victory much like they did tonight.
Leading the game offensively for the Warriors Tuesday night was senior Corey Clement (Las Vegas, NV). Clement recorded 14 points, while going 10-for-12 from the free-throw line. Senior Andre Smith (San Diego, CA) added 10 points while pulling down 10 rebounds for the double-double. Junior Micheal Patterson (Amarillo, TX) and senior Brenton Muldrow (Riverside, CA) each added 9 points.
For the Wildcats, Corey Silverstrom led the way with a game high 20 points. Jalen McFerren added 15 points while connecting on 4-of-5 from three-point-range.
The regular season gets back underway on December 9 when the Warriors travel to Vallejo to take on the California Maritime Academy Keelhaulers at 8:00 p.m. Both the Warriors and Keelhaulers squared off back on November 18, with the Warriors taking the victory by the score of 81-65.
