REDDING, Calif. – The William Jessup University women's soccer team cruised past rival Simpson University 6-0 Saturday. Freshman forward
Yvette Perez (Santa Rosa, CA) scored three goals, completing her first collegiate hat trick in the Warriors' second game of the season.
Perez got the scoring started in the 23rd minute, and her teammates quickly followed her lead. Junior transfer
Celia Rangel (Bakersfield, California) scored in the 26th minute, her second goal in as many games.
Immediately after the goal, in the 28th minute, Rangel dished an assist to Hannah Lettington (Orangevale, California). Defender Shonna Fraser got into the action as well. After finding her way into the front of the pitch, she was awarded a penalty kick and capitalized on it, sneaking her PK past the Simpson Goalie and into the back of the net.
Perez would score twice more in the second 45 minutes of play. In all, the Warriors were able to keep consistent possession and solid control over the game and pace of play. They would go on to produce 24 shots over the course of the game with 11 of them headed toward the net.
While the Warrior offense was on point against Simpson, the defensive line played an equally as impressive a game. Anchored by
Cassidy Gray (Redlands, California) who played the entire 90 minutes, Jessup's defense allowed Simpson only one shot and the Red Hawks were given no attempts on goal, ensuring a clean sheet for Jessup keeper
Alison Marlow (Huntington Beach, California).
Maintaining the vast majority of possession, Jessup made 24 attempts with 11 of them on goal.
The Lady Warriors will be returning to Rocklin to play their first ever game against visiting University of Dallas. The game will be kicking off September 4, 4:00 PM at Jessup Field.
