Rocklin, Calif. – Jessup's women's soccer team went up against Simpson University for the second time this season Wednesday afternoon and the final results were consistent as the Warriors easily swept the Redhawks with a 3-0 victory.
Jessup has found significant success on both sides of the pitch so far this year and this game was no different. The Warriors set the tone early as Celia Rangel (Bakersfield, CA) scored her sixth goal of the season in just the second minute of play off a beautifully placed through-ball from Aubrey Brisbane (San Francisco, CA). The Warriors kept their offensive mindset throughout the entirety of the half, taking an astounding 19 shots but were unable to record any additional marks on the scoreboard.
"We have 22 new girls this year so we definitely wanted to see how we could mesh and doing a lot of high-pressure play has helped," said Jessup's head coach Jamie Howard. "The hope was to get comfortable in front of the net and when we get in high-pressure situations around the net we keep our composure."
The second half was much the same story as Yvette Perez (Santa Rosa, CA), who leads the GSAC in goals per game, scored her seventh of the season in the 48th minute. Nikki Perales (Lodi, CA) put away any doubt in the game's ultimate result when she drilled the back of the goal in the 82nd minute.
Defensively, the back line held strong as has been their standard this year. Simpson was only allowed two shot attempts, one of which fell on goal. Junior Brianna Evans took on goalkeeping responsibilities for the day, gaining her first win and first clean sheet of her Jessup career.
The Warriors will be starting their true test as they enter GSAC play starting with a home game against 13th ranked Vanguard University this Saturday Sep., 26. "Were excited, they're 13th in the country and it will be nice to play against a great competitor like that and to see how we bring our game," said Howard.
The Warriors will be honoring Andrew Rundle this Saturday in their annual Andrew Rundle charity game where fans are encouraged to bring non-perishable goods which will be collected by the Community Outreach & Food Closet at Mosaic Christian Church.
