ROCKLIN, Calif. – The Warriors flipped the script of their recent past, beating conference foe Arizona Christian University at home 3-0 in a battle between the two newest Golden State Athletic Conference (GSAC) volleyball coaches.
The Warriors showed an edge they had yet to display consistently this season, keeping unforced errors to a minimum in the firm victory. In total for the day, the Warriors limited themselves to only 13 errors as Arizona Christian had recorded 20 of their own at the match's conclusion.
"Today our goal was to let the players show they wanted it," said head coach Shasta Millhollin-Bossom. "We talked about balance between front row and back row and our players did really well with those adjustments. It was an awesome performance."
Both Millhollin-Bossom and Arizona Christian's head coach Rebecca Olson are competing in their inaugural season in the Golden State Athletic Conference, and each were looking for their first GSAC win of their careers. MIllhollin-Bossom's team was able to improve their record to 5-11 overall on the season and 1-5 in conference play with the win.
Courtney Lengyel (Diamond Bar, CA) had a breakout game, leading the Warriors with nine kills offensively while Cheyenne Johnson (Redding, CA) and Kylee Thompson (Gilbert, AZ) recorded 11 and 10 assists respectively. Also notable has been the Warriors defense in front of the net as they scored from a total of six blocks on the evening.
"I think they are definitely ready and due for some break-out wins," concluded MIllhollin-Bossom. "Our goal is to get Masters and Westmont which we know we can do and we have our sights on knocking off Vanguard as well."
Jessup will be on the road visiting Vanguard University on October third at 7PM but will return home on Oct. 8 to face the University of Antelope Valley at 7:00 pm.
