Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Warriors fall on the Road 65-37 to No. 2 Westmont

Jessup falls to .500 in GSAC Play, Scully and Corona each Score Seven

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Jessup was faced with easily their toughest test of the season Saturday evening, traveling to Santa Barbara to take on the nation's second-ranked Westmont College. The Warriors seemed overmatched right from the start, as they could not catch up to their tough GSAC foes in the 65-37 loss.

The first half was a rough going for the Warriors, as they were only able to produce 16 points in the game's first 20-minutes. Westmont shot an impressive 57-percent from the field in the first half, aided on with a 55.6-percent showing from behind the arc. The Warriors shot just 27-percent from the field in the first half.

While they entered the second half trailing by 25 points, the Warriors did improve in the latter half as they held Westmont's scoring to a minimum. Westmont scored just 10 points in the third, compared to a 16 point third quarter by Jessup to trim the lead to under 20 points. The Warriors; however, could not manage another fourth quarter comeback, as they scored just 5 points in the final frame to fall by 28 points.

The leading scorers for Jessup Saturday were seniors Megan Scully (Newark, CA) and Diana Corona (Porterville, CA) with 7 points each. Freshman Olivia Luu (Riverside, CA) added 6 points on the night. For Westmont, it was Aysia Shellmire who led all scorers with 15 points.

With the loss, the Warrior's record on the season falls to 13-6 overall, and a .500 record of 4-4 in conference play. The season continues on Thursday when Jessup returns home to play host to Arizona Christian University at 5:30 p.m.
