Bench Lifts Warriors over Redhawks, 87-69

Brandon Lindsey Continues Offensive Threat with 28 Points

REDDING, Calif. - Coming of a week break, the Warriors traveled to Redding to take on Simpson University to kick-off their three-game road haul. Off to a great start, the men's basketball team came out firing, taking a double-digit lead in the first half to maintain through the finish to defeat the Redhawks, 87-69.

Jessup held the lead throughout the first half, only allowing the Redhawks to come within 9 points in the final 10 minutes before solidifying the double-digit lead at the half (49-36).

"Overall tonight's game was a step in the right direction. We were able to play all 15 guys quality minutes in both halves which bodes well for the future," commented head coach Lance Von Vogt.

Freshman Brandon Lindsey continued to excel offensively leading the Warriors in the first 20-minutes of play with 16 points, shooting 70 percent from the floor, while going 2-for-2 from beyond the arc.

He continued his perfection from the three-point line to finish the game 5-5 while shooting an overall 78-percent from the field in his 21-minute appearance on the hardwood. Lindsey is ranked in the NAIA top-five overall in scoring with a total 120 points in six games, averaging 20 points per game.

"Brandon played extremely well scoring 28 points in about 21 minutes," Von Vogt said. "He's showing some versatility in his offensive game and will be a tough cover moving forward."

The Warriors would lead by as much as 28 in the final half with less than nine minutes to play in regulation, 80-52. While the Redhawks gained momentum inside the paint, Jessup continued to counter the baskets on the other end to maintain the double-figure lead to the finish on top, 87-69. 

The bench accounted for 39 of the Warrior's points against Simpson's 27.  Michael Patterson came off the bench leading with 12 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists; followed by JayVon Stone with 6 points accompanied by 2 rebounds and Kelton Newman with 5 points, 3 rebounds and one assist.

Coach Von Vogt spoke on the player's ability to come off the bench, "The depth of our bench is one of our strengths and tonight was no different. I really liked the energy they brought to tonight's game."

After tonight's win the Warriors improve to 5-1 going into their two-game appearance at the Midland Empire Classic on Friday and Saturday. They will take on familiar foe Oregon Tech, last taking the double-overtime win at the Bill Holtz Classic, and facing Southern Oregon for the first time this season.

"This OIT tourney is always a big time classic where we play two nationally recognized programs," Von Vogt reflected. "We will have to play very well to be successful, but I believe that our guys will rise to the occasion."
