Warriors Open Conference Falling to Biola on the Road

Lily Hagerty led the Warriors with a season-high 12 points

LA MIRADA, Calif. - Kicking-off conference play the Warriors traveled south to take on Biola University before the winter break. Despite the strong energy and defensive efforts, the Warriors were not able to transfer that offensively as the Biola Eagles took the win 64-47.

"We played hard enough to win tonight," head coach Kurt Westendorp commented.  "But didn't execute well enough on the offensive end."

Coming back from a 10-point deficit, the Warriors closed out the first quarter on a 7-0 run to tail the Eagles going into the second quarter 11-14.

"For the most pet we played well defensively, holding them to 14 points under their season average and making their best players work for their points," said Westendorp.

Just two minutes into the quarter the Warriors tied it up at 14 with offensive leader of the night, Lily Hagerty laying it in good for two. The Eagles would make their own 9-0 run to go up 16-25 with four minutes to play before the break. Jessup was unable to answer back as they headed into the locker room with Biola leading 33-20.

The offensive struggle continued through the third quarter as the Eagles were outscored 12-21 down 32-54 with just one quarter remaining to play.

The Warriors were motivated in the fourth as they fired back winning the quarter 15-10. The Warriors were led on the offensive end by Hagerty with her season-high 12 points, going 4-6 from the floor with two rebounds. Adding to the scoring efforts was Ashlyn Jones with 11 points and 6 rebounds, Janelle Luu with 7 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists, and Rona Chavez with 6 points, 5 steals and 3 assists.

"I was pleased with the production we received from Lily Hagerty tonight.  I hope she leaves this game with confidence going forward," Coach Westendorp stated.

The Warriors will take on Dort College on the 19th at home before heading to their homes for a quick winter break before hosting nationally ranked Vanguard on January 5th in Warrior Arena.

"Im disappointed with the outcome but we're coming out of this game with a clearer understanding of what we need to get better at to defend our home court when we face Biola next month in Warrior Arena," Westendorp concluded.
