MARYSVILLE, Calif. – The Warriors hit the diamond Tuesday night to take on a tough opponent in the likes of the Bethesda University of California Flames. Jessup saw a number of chances early to get on the board, but their late eighth inning rally was too late for them to spark a comeback as they fell 12-4.
Jessup saw a number of chances to get on the board early Tuesday, but they could not cash in on any of their opportunities. In the bottom of the second, the Warriors got runners on second and third but the rally ended with no runs crossing the plate. The Warriors again got a runner in scoring position with one out in the fourth, but they could not find a way to bring him home.
It took until the eighth inning Tuesday for Jessup to finally capitalize on some of their opportunities, as they went on a big rally to plate four runs in the inning. Sophomore Nathan Torres (Monterey Park, CA) began the rally with a leadoff double, which was followed with the next five batters reaching base as well.
Unfortunately for Jessup, the rally came much too late as the Warriors trailed 12-0 entering the eighth inning. Bethesda plated two runners in each of the first two innings to take a 4-0 lead. The Flames added three more in the fourth, with two coming off a home run down the leftfield line. Bethesda added five more runs throughout the remainder of the day as they took home the 12-4 victory.
On the mound for the Warriors Tuesday was senior Steven Rodriguez (Reseda, CA). Rodriguez got roughed up early, lasting just 1.2 innings while allowing 4 runs on 5 hits. Sophomore Zach Ricciardi (Chino Hills, CA) came in to pitch in relief Tuesday and looked impressive, tossing 2.1 innings while allowing 3 runs (2 earned) on 6 hits, striking out and walking just one.
For Bethesda, Braxton Ravello-Diaz received the start and was dealing as he tossed a seven inning gem. Over that team he would allow no runs on 7 hits and 5 strikeouts. The Bethesda bullpen combined to throw the final two innings, in which the Warriors scored their four runs and saw eight men reach base.
Offensively for Jessup, Torres finished the day batting 2-for-5 with the double and a run scored. Freshman Michael Capocciama (Huntington Beach, CA) entered the game in the seventh and went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Jessup will get back in action on Friday when they play host to The Master's College for game one of a three game GSAC series. The series will continue on Saturday for a doubleheader. First pitch Friday will be at 6:00 p.m. All games this weekend will be played at Bryant Field in Marysville.
