ATHERTON, Calif.- The Warriors edged out a win in a defensive first game at Menlo College on Tuesday 1-0; but the Oaks managed to come from behind in game two to win 4-1, splitting the two-game series.
GAME 1
It was a pitchers duel through the day's opening game as neither team was able to post a run until the game's second extra inning.
Shelbi Graifman (Antioch, CA) held the mound for the Warriors through the entirety of the first matchup, lasting nine full innings and facing 33 batters. Of those she faced Graifman sent four back to the dugout on strikes, while allowing no runs on five hits.
Graifman also had an impressive day at the plate grabbing three hits in four at-bats and scoring the winning run in the top of the ninth inning. Her go-ahead run was batted in by a well struck, well-timed base hit from teammate Breanna Miskimen (Torrance, CA).
Menlo's Jessie Salsbury was given the loss after also pitching a beautiful nine-inning game allowing one run on eight hits, four strikeouts and a walk.
GAME 2
Menlo had to come from behind in game two to steal the series sweep away from the Warriors. Jessup got on the board in the game's second inning when Ali Medina (Galt, CA) smashed the ball into right-center field for a double, sending Kyla Cisneros (Visalia, CA) safely home.
Menlo was due for some offensive production on the day and they finally found it in the third inning, scoring two to take a one-run lead. They would cross home plate once more in the fourth and record a safety run in the sixth to grab the 4-1 victory over Jessup.
Jessica Myers (Modesto, CA) pitched the day's finale, throwing six innings, allowing four runs on seven hits, and striking out two. Jordan Kennedy of the Oaks got the win pitching seven innings, allowing one run on five hits with one strikeout.
The Warriors' home game on March 23 has been cancelled but Jessup softball will be playing at home on Thursday, March 24, in a makeup game against San Diego Christian College. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at Azevedo Park in Rocklin.
