Box Score 2 ROCKLIN, Calif.- The Warriors played two nail biter games against the No. 14 ranked Hawks of San Diego Christian College in a makeup doubleheader on Thursday, grabbing a win in game two, 3-2.
GAME 1
San Diego struck early scoring from a sacrifice fly ball to right field in the first inning but Jessup did not sit back and relax. Pitcher Shelbi Graifman (Antioch, CA) drilled a ball way over the center field fence in the top of the second inning to bring the score back to even at 1-1.
Jessup's catcher Mikayla Laymance (Grass Valley, CA) had a big defensive presence on the day, throwing out runners stealing second in both the first and second inning, giving San Diego pause before attempting to move future runners into scoring position on the sly.
Graifman came up big again in the fourth inning, swatting home run nearly identical to her second inning hit, putting Jessup in the driver's seat with a 2-1 lead. The Hawks, however, put together a big run in the fifth inning stringing together three runs to eventually grab the 4-2 victory.
On the mound for the Warriors, Graifman allowed three earned runs on eight hits and struck out six. Recording the win for the Hawks was starting pitcher Kendra Kuper who allowed two runs on four hits with three strikeouts.
GAME 2
The Hawks scored in the first inning once more in the day's second game, putting another single run across home plate. It was the Warriors this time who would find a big production inning in the bottom of the first; however.
Kyla Cisneros (Visalia, CA) sent a grounder toward the shortstop but the ball was bobbled, allowing Cisneros to reach second while teammates Delany Slater (Folsom, CA) and Ali Medina (Galt, CA) finished their trip around the diamond. Riley Williams (Orangevale, CA) then stepped to the plate a batted in teammate Graifman with a base hit.
San Diego attempted to mount a comeback in the seventh inning but Warrior pitcher Jessica Myers (Modesto, CA) and team held tough through the attack, limiting the damage to just one run and sealing the 3-2 victory.
Myers earned the win on the mound for the Warriors pitching seven innings allowing two runs on eight hits and striking out seven.
The Warriors will enjoy Easter weekend off but return to the field on Thursday, March 31 when they host Antelope Valley under the lights with games starting at 4:00 p.m.
