Warriors 0-3 in Visit to The Master’s College

ROCKLIN, Calif. – William Jessup University's baseball team concluded their 2016 season this weekend with a visit to the third-best team in the conference, The Master's College, coming away empty handed, swept in the three-game series.

GAME 1

The Warriors made a last inning comeback attempt in the first game of the series but came up just short in a 5-2 Friday afternoon loss to the Mustangs.

The Master's found run production often throughout the game, scoring one in the first inning, a pair of runs in fourth and one run each in the seventh and eighth innings. Jessup manufactured a scoring inning in the top of the ninth with a two-out, two-run home run by freshman Ben Knudson (Rancho Cordova, CA) in his first collegiate career home run.

Senior Sam Anderson (Roseville, CA) made the final start of his collegiate career on Friday, throwing seven innings and allowing five runs on 12 hits and striking out four batters. The win went to The Master's Brad Lohse who pitched eight innings and held the Warriors scoreless on four hits while recording six strikeouts.

GAME 2

The opening game of Saturday's doubleheader got away from the Warriors early on. After jumping to a 5-0 lead after the first inning, the Mustang's proceeded to plate runs in all but three innings, eventually landing on a 17-0 victory.

Jessup's Cameron Morrow (Woodland, CA) got the start for the game and was credited the loss while The Master's starter Jason Karkenny earned the win.

GAME 3

The Warriors were able to find their feet again for the third game but were never able to restart their offensive production. The Master's scored in the second, third and fifth innings for a 4-0 win. Jessup would leave three runners stranded during the game.

Senior Phillip Chavez (Vacaville, CA) got the nod to start on the mound for the final game of the season. Chavez would pitch the entirety of the game completing six innings allowing four runs on nine hits and striking out two. Connor Menez started for The Master's pitching seven innings allowing no runs on three hits and striking out nine.

The series completes William Jessup University baseball's second season of existence, finishing with a 3-37, (3-27 GSAC) record. William Jessup University bids farewell to eight seniors who have put an amazing amount of work and leadership into establishing the William Jessup University baseball program including Anderson, Chavez, Kyle Robinson, Steven Otaguro, Nainoa Hart, Dayton Kurian, Josh Johnson, and Steven Rodriguez. The Warriors look forward to adopting a home field next year as they partner with the city of Lincoln to renovate historic McBean Park.
