Despite Strong Defense, Warriors Unable to Connect Against the Bobcats

MERCED, Calif. - Coming off a four-day break, the Lady Warriors had a strong defensive effort against UC Merced forcing five offsides and 8 saves in the net, but were unable to collect a goal losing 0-2 to the Bobcats.

"Merced gave us a very good game," women's soccer head coach Rachel Constantini said. "But unfortunately our errors costs us goals and we weren't able to put our opportunities away."

The first half proved to be a strong one on the defensive end for the Warriors forcing 4 of the 5 offsides and Brianna Evans blocking half of her saves. Jessup and Bobcats exchanged possessions throughout a scoreless 45 minutes before heading into the second half.

With a record of strong second halves, the Warriors took the field for the final 45 minutes.  The Bobcats came out determined scoring in the first minute of the half off a corner kick, then deflected in the net for a 1-0 lead.

They would add another goal late in the second half to go up 2-0 as the Warriors suffered just their second, of seven games played, shutout of the season.

"As with every game, win, lose or draw," Constantini stated, "We take the negatives and correct them and continue to encourage the positive growth.  These girls never walk off the field without giving it their all, and as a coaching staff that's all we can ask of them."

Jessup will have a break before hitting the pitch next on Saturday, September 24th at Vanguard to open conference play.
