Late Goal Seals the Deal as the Warriors Defeat Sierra Nevada 3-1

ROCKLIN, Calif. - Coming off a three-game road skid, the Lady Warriors returned home to host their last non-conference opponent Sierra Nevada College taking a flood of shots in the first half to the to go ahead 2-0 at the break. The Eagles changed the tide in the second half leading 11 shots to the Warriors 4, but a late goal by freshman Isabel House secured the win for Jessup, 3-1.

"The game was an excellent example of this team's character," head coach Rachel Constantini said. "We had a tough weekend but the girls rallied together and did exactly what we asked of them, they put balls in the back of the net."

With an aggressive start, the Warriors shot 16 to the Eagles zero in the first 45 minutes of play.  The Warriors hit the board first in the 12th minutes as Kailee Soares sent a long cross to the far post where freshman Katie Camerer headed it in for her third goal of the season.

Late in the first half the Warriors made another connection this time from sophomore midfielder Alexia De La Paz scoring her first goal of the season from 25 yards out. De La Paz booted it just enough over the tips of the Eagles' fingers for the 2-0 advantage going into the half.

"Lex had a beautiful goal," Constantini stated. "She saw the keepers positioning and was able to place it right under the bar."

Sierra Nevada responded in the second half outshooting the Warriors, 4-11 with their lone goal of the game.  Sierra got on the board in the 82nd minute with a connection made off a corner kick to head it in, only trailing by one, 2-1 Jessup lead.

Continuing to make attempts throughout the final half, Warriors keeper Savanna Yendes defended her home well with a pair of saves.

The Warriors would add another goal in the last minute of regulation to seal the deal with a tap from sophomore Janelle Schuette to I. House recording her third goal this season.  Jessup defeats Sierra Nevada 3-1 at Jessup Field improving to 4-5.

"Our last minute goal was an terrific display of heart. We wanted to put away as many goals as possible," reflected Constantini, "and they never stopped fighting for it."

The Lady Warriors will hit the road for their next two conference matchups, first to take on Arizona Christian on Saturday, October 1st, followed by Menlo on Thursday, October 6th.
