LINCOLN, Calif. – One day after opening their new home ballpark, the Warriors were back on the field Sunday as they took on the Oregon Tech Owls for the final two games of this four-game series. After dropping the first game of the day, a late inning comeback would end the afternoon on a high note and place the Warriors back at .500.
GAME ONE
Oregon Tech opened game one to a fast start, scoring a run off an RBI double in the first inning. With two-out in the third, the Owls struck for two more runs to make the lead 3-0. Jessup got their first run of the day on an RBI single from senior Rory Peterson (Reno, NV) in the third, but more runs would not come as Jessup left the bases loaded.
Junior
Alex Nasukiewicz (Sacramento, CA) tied the game in the fifth with a two-run single up the middle. The Owls would score two-more with two out in the sixth, placing them ahead by the 5-3 score that would ultimately be the game's final.
Senior
Calvin Bonilla (Eagle Rock, CA) got the starting nod for Jessup in game one Sunday. Bonilla went six innings, allowing five runs on eight hits, walking one and striking out three. Bonilla received the loss, with Avery Wood earning the win in relief for the Owls.
GAME TWO
The ball was flying early on in game two, as in the second inning sophomore
Garrett Case (Carmichael, CA) got Jessup on the board with a solo shot to left. In the next half inning, the Owls would take the lead on a three-run home run from Kai Fong.
Trailing 4-1 in the fourth, the Warriors would start chipping away at the deficit, starting with an RBI single through the hole on the right side by junior
Dakota Spillers (Turlock, CA). The lead would be cut to one on a sacrifice fly by junior
Sam Curtis (Rocklin, CA).
Down one in the sixth, the Warriors sparked towards a six-run inning to go ahead 9-4. Curtis tied the game on an RBI double to right-center, and then Peterson put Jessup on top with a two-run single. Jessup added two more runs thanks to a double from sophomore
Joshua Duitsman (Bakersfield, CA) and an RBI single from freshman
Manuel Galvan (Riverside, CA).
The season continues this next weekend, Friday, February 3 and Saturday, February 4, when the Warriors take on the College of Idaho for a duo of doubleheaders.
