Three-Set Comeback Lifts Warriors over Slugs

Jessica Williams Sets a Personal Best 55 Assists

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - After dropping the first two sets to the UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs on Tuesday night, William Jessup bounced back winning the final three sets to claim the match. The Warriors fought hard in the opening sets, but ultimately the Slugs pulled away winning 25-18 and 25-19. However, the final three sets told a different story with the Warriors defeating the Slugs in consecutive sets, 25-23, 25-20 and 15-10.

After the game head coach Shasta Millhollin said, "Tonight was a wild night for us! Playing at the West Field House at UC Santa Cruz is always intense and exciting. The stands were packed with very vocal fans. We knew that it would be a tough battle."

Despite a tough opponent in the Slugs, who had the upper hand early, several Jessup players stepped up helping propel the team to victory. Millhollin praised her team saying, "We had a balanced effort tonight with several players racking up double-digit kills and digs."

Millhollin added that "Taylor Jacky was huge for us in the back row both offensively and defensively! Our Libero is also an unsung hero on our team. Kacey just does her job so consistently well that it's easy to take her for granted. Jessica came back from being sick last week and had a double-double tonight with 55 assists and 16 digs."

Sophomore setter Jessica Williams appeared to work for State Farm in the game as she was "always assisting", finishing with a team and career-high of 55. Danielle Schoen led the way in kills with 13, Sydney Molander was close behind with 12, Makenzie Reeder-Esparza and Vendela Williams each finished with 11 on the night. For Williams, she reached to 200-marker on the season for kills and still has eight games left to play to add to her season total.

The Warriors had four aces on the night, with Taylor Jacky nabbing two and Schoen along with Reeder-Esparza each getting one. Kacey Berger had a team-high 24 digs and Jessica Williams tallied 16 while Alicia Borges finished with 14.

On October 14, the Warriors will be back in action hosting Menlo College for our annual Pink Out Breast Cancer Awareness Match, at 2:00 PM in Warrior Arena.
