ATHERTON, Calif. - The Warriors would travel to Menlo College to close out the 2017 season on Saturday afternoon with eight seniors taking the field for their final time in the blue and red. Scoreless at halftime, the Warriors battled the nationally recognized Oaks but let two bye in the final half to drop their final contest 2-0.
"The girls played an excellent game today," head coach
Rachel Constantini said. "Unfortunately we weren't able to convert our chances in front of the net in either half. The team exhibited great mental fortitude, as it was a battle from start to finish."
In the first half, the Oaks outshot the Warriors 7 to two with a dynamite performance from Jessup goalkeeper
Camille Cavey with four saves just in the first half. Down the stretch, the Warriors had a pair of corners delivered by senior
Kailee Soares and a shot by
Yvette Perez but it remained scoreless through the first 45 minutes.
Finding the back of the net first was the Oaks in the 61st minute to take the first lead of the game and an insurance goal would come in the 80th minute off a penalty kick for Menlo to go up 2-0.
In the 84th minute Soares set up a penalty kick for the Warriors but the Oaks keeper recorded the save as Menlo took it 2-0 to the finish.
Cavey had a total 7 saves on the day for the Warriors closing out the season with a program record 75 saves crushing the previous 67 total.
"This season did not follow as we had carefully planned and worked for," reflected Constantini. "However, this group of girls continue to grow; as soccer players, high achieving students and most importantly servant leaders."
Second-year head coach Constantini closed praising her 9 graduating seniors, "As a coach, you hope that your players leave your program as women who will positively impact society. I have no doubt that these seniors will do just that. We are blessed to now call them alumni of our William Jessup Women's Soccer program."
