Warriors Defend Home Court in 78-56 Win

Jessup remains undefeated on home court, 6-0 and 8-2 overall

ROCKLIN, Calif. - The Jessup men's basketball team returned to Warrior Arena Saturday night after a four-game road stint looking to continue their undefeated streak on Horton Court as they took on Cal Maritime Academy. Closing the first half with a 20-point lead, the Warriors maintained momentum through the second half to improve to 8-2 overall, while still undefeated at home with a 78-56 win over the Keelhaulers.

Head coach Lance Von Vogt was pleased with the win and impressed with the Warriors intensity out the gate, "We did a good job controlling the tempo out the gate and getting down in our defensive stance to hold them to 20-percent from the field, while out-rebounding them by 20 and keeping our turnover to four, all in the first half."

Leading scorer for the night Brandon Lindsey opened up the game driving through the lane with a pair of layups and as the game went on he would continue in what would be his go-to move with a total 19 points for the Warriors along with four assists.

Crashing the boards in the first half, the Warriors out-rebounded the Keelhaulers 35-12 and continued that record-setting number with 61 total rebounds on the night, tied for second-most in program history for total rebounds.

With a 20-point lead at the half, 42-22 the Warriors held their opponent shooting just 20-percent with strong defense forcing Cal Maritime to turn the ball over four times themselves.

Not ready to give up, Cal Maritime came back in the second half with an opening 6-0 run forcing the Warriors to take a timeout to regroup. And that they did answering back with a 7-0 spark led by Antonio Lewis and continued with Lindsey who added a pair of free throws and a bucket from long range.

Midway through the final half, the Warriors took their largest lead of the game 60-36 with another bucket in the paint, this time from Tate DeLaVeaga. Finishing in double figures for the Warriors was Lindsey (19), Luis Medearis with 11 points and 6 rebounds and Antonio Lewis with 10 points and 9 rebounds.

Cal Maritime would have another run but the Warriors continued to answer back to seal the fate for the Keelhaulers taking it 78-56 to continue to dominate home court and improving to 8-2 overall.

The Warriors will break until next week when they take on NCAA Div. I opponent, UC Davis in an exhibition match next Saturday, December 9th at 2 pm on the road.
