ROCKLIN, Calif. - Welcoming a large crowd to Warrior Arena was just what the women's basketball team needed heading into their matchup against San Diego Christian for the 2017 Homecoming event.
Despite the cheering of the crowd and hard work all four quarters for the Warriors, the Hawks flew away with the final lead to secure the win, 61-54.
Trailing the Hawks just four points after the opening quarter (11-15), Jessup had a come-back quarter in the second to take a four-point advantage heading into the locker room.
Sara Vasquez opened up the second quarter with a three-pointer, now trailing one, but with a block on the defensive end by
Emilee VanDyke and a conversation basket back on their side, the Warriors took the lead 16-16 just 30 seconds in.
Vasquez would follow up with one more three before the half, and offensive threat,
Ashlyn Jones would put up 3 baskets in that quarter, closing out the half with 8 total points.
The Hawks would open the third quarter on a 7-0 run as the Warriors fell behind early in the second half, much like Thursday night's third-quarter set back against Biola. But tonight was different, with an answer back by Jones, scoring 5 straight points, the Warriors tied it up 33 all with half of the third quarter left to play.
In the final seconds of the third,
Olivia Luu would drive through the lane to make it a one-possession game (44-46) with 10-minutes remaining in regulation.
Jones would add another 6-points in the final quarter to finish with a team-high 19 points to lead the Warrior, accompanied by O. Luu with 12 points and Vasquez with 7 points respectively.
Unable to regain the lead, the Hawks would take as much as a 7-point lead midway through the quarter, Warriors chipping away at it little by little, but not enough to seal the win as the Hawks advance to 6-8 in conference play and Warriors fall to 2-10.
The Lady Warriors will host their final game of the three-game homestand on Valentine's Day at 5:30 pm in Warrior Arena taking on UC Santa Cruz before hitting the road for their final conference road trip of the season.
