LINCOLN, Calif. – Beginning a new series Friday, the Warriors hosted the Saint Katherine College Firebirds for a four-game series, starting with a doubleheader. After dropping the first game of the day 12-4, Jessup got some late inning offense in game two as they picked up the victory by the score of 2-1.
GAME ONE
Saint Katherine got out to a fast start in game one Friday, as they plated three runs in the top of the first. The Firebirds' bats came out to play in game one, as they hit three two-run home runs, with the homers coming in the fourth, seventh, and ninth innings.
Jessup's first run of the day came in the third, when shortstop
Rory Petersen doubled down the left field line, driving in catcher Zachary Clement. Jessup would get two runs in the seventh, coming off a passed ball and then an RBI walk. In the eighth,
Dakota Spillers came off the bench to pinch hit, driving in Jessup's fourth run when he reached base via an error.
Tristan Pryblinski started game one, tossing five innings while allowing five runs (four earned) on six hits with two walks and a strikeout. Jessup used three pitchers in relief, with the bullpen allowing seven runs (five earned) over four innings. Jason Montville earned the win with his six-inning performance.
GAME TWO
Getting the starting nod for Jessup in game two was right-hander
Calvin Bonilla. Bonilla, looked sharp in his five innings of work, as he struck out seven batters, two shy of tying the Jessup baseball record for single-game strikeouts. Bonilla allowed one run, which was unearned after an infield single in the fifth.
Spillers continued to swing a hot bat in game two Friday, as he led off the bottom of the fifth with a solo home run to left field, tying the game at one. The Warriors would take the lead in the sixth, when
Joshua Duitsman singled to right, scoring Petersen who reached base on an infield singe and then advanced into scoring position with a stolen base.
Mikey Saldana got the win in game two, as he came in to pitch two perfect innings of relief. Cole Hermann took the loss after allowing one run in his one inning of relief.
Jessup and Saint Katherine will wrap up their four-game series on Saturday when the two teams play a doubleheader. Both games will take place at McBean Park in Lincoln. First pitch Saturday is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
