Softball Road Series Starts with a Split at Biola

Warriors Take Game One with 7 Runs in the First Inning

LA MIRADA, Calif. - The Warriors kicked off their two-game road series with their first doubleheader against the Biola University Eagles on Friday afternoon.

With an impressive appearance out the gate in game one, the Warriors held the 7-run lead from the start only allowing one run for the win (7-1) but fell in game two 1-0 for a split with the Eagles.

GAME ONE
In game one the Warriors tacked on seven runs to start things off strong with a little help from the Eagles. Wrapping up the opening frame, the Warriors pushed 7 runs across on 2 hits by Ali Medina and Tessa Harris, with the Eagles committing two errors to advance the Warriors.

The Eagles took on starter Shelbi Graifman, who only allowed one run on two hits with 8 strikeouts in her fifth win of the season.

In the bottom of the fourth Graifman would give up a solo home run to the Eagles, but kept composure to close out the 7-1 victory on top.

 GAME TWO
It was a tight race in game two as both teams continued to put hits on the board, but were unable to push runs across the plate with a tied ballgame up until the fifth inning.

Mariah Gonzalez took the circle for the Warriors walking away with the loss but only allowing 1 run on 8 hits with 5 strikeouts.

In the bottom of the fifth the Eagles started things off with a single up the middle, but two smart plays to follow helped the Warriors to two outs and two runners on. Gonzalez would walk in, what would be, the winning run before retiring the final batter of the inning swinging.

A single in the top of the sixth by Rachel Hooper sparked the Warrior's effort to rally back but it wasn't enough to get on the board as the Eagles finished the seventh inning with a three-up- three-down completion of game two and the 1-0 win.

Splitting on the day the Warriors are now 8-11 overall and 4-4 in conference play going into tomorrow's match-up against Vanguard University for a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m.
