ROCKLIN, Calif. - It was an eventful day on the Warrior diamond for the softball team as they hosted their final regular-season series at home against Biola University anxiously awaiting their fate for the GSAC Championships. But a trio of events sealed the deal for the Warriors as they swept the Eagles (7-0, 12-8), celebrated their seniors and finished the season ranked third overall in the GSAC standings.
Despite the amazing opportunity to send five senior's out in style, the Warriors capped the day off awarding
Ali Medina the program's prestigious coaches award at the conclusion of game two and a surprise proposal awaited her in the pitcher's circle, with all her family and teammates around.
With a more than anxious crowd throughout the day, the Warriors kept them entertained with a hitting performance like no other tallying 13 hits in game one to bring in seven runs, and 12 hits in game two for a season-high 12 runs against the Eagles.
Senior
Kyla Cisneros was unstoppable on her final day of play on the Warrior diamond going 5-5 in game one with 5 of the 7 RBI's and 6-8 overall.
Stephanie Scott wouldn't be too far behind going 3-4 in the first outing for an overall 4-7 from the plate bringing in 4 runs.
Shelbi Graifman would start things off in game one on the mound pitching a hitless 4 innings for the win (12-8) before senior
Amanda Taylor came in to close out the final three innings for her final appearance in the circle at home.
The Eagles would attack first in game two against starting pitcher
Mariah Gonzalez with a 2-0 lead in the first inning but the Warriors answered right back in the bottom half of the frame with a pair of RBI-singles by
Corina Salinas and Cisneros for a tie ballgame.
It would be a back-and-forth battle through the next three innings before the Warriors added some cushion in the bottom of the fifth with five runs coming in off 5 hits for the 11-5 lead.
Biola would cross three more times and the Warriors once in before the official outcome came to 12-8 for the series sweep!
With the pair of wins today the Warriors solidified third place in the GSAC regular season, heading to the conference championship May 2nd to take on the Menlo Oaks for the first round of the tournament. The Warriors were tied with the Oaks in the second place slot the last couple weeks of conference before the final series this weekend and split 2-2 in the two-series appearances thus far.
