Home Run Debut Sends Seniors Off in Style

Warriors Combine for Five Total Bombs to Close the Season

ROCKLIN, Calif. - The Warriors baseball team closed out the season hosting The Master's University with a memorable senior send-off ceremony to start the game, and a thrilling fight to the end with a combined 12 home runs as the Mustangs rallied to a 21-13 victory.

Starting their final game in Warrior uniform, Calvin Bonilla toed the rubber for the start with Zach Clement behind the plate, while veteran Rory Petersen took shortstop, Justin Chase headed to first and Jacob Wilson came in to pitch a flawless ninth inning with a standing ovation exit.

Starting where they left off last game, the Mustangs opened the first inning with a pair of home runs, to be added to their five in yesterday's double header, with a 6-0 lead after the first frame. But the Warrior fans came to support and those in uniform answered right back with back-to-back homers in the bottom of the second by designated hitter Josh Duitsman, followed by right fielder Javier Garcia as the Warriors chipped away at the visitors lead, 6-2.

Garcia wasn't quite done as he followed up in the next inning with a shot over the left field fence to bring the Warriors within one (7-8) on a three-run homer. Leading off the inning was a quartet of singles in Petersen, Chase, Duitsman and Joey Torres. Duitsman would end the season going 3-for-3 from the plate with a set of RBI's for the Warriors.

The Master's would hold Jessup scoreless through the seventh while launching another four bombs over the wall for the 18-7 advantage.

In the seventh and eighth inning, the Warriors would rally back pushing six runs across. In the bottom of the seventh Chase would bring in Petersen, followed by a RBI by Dakota Spillers and pinch hitting Ben Knudsen bringing in Chase for a RBI double, Warriors trail 10-18.

Leander Carter would start the two-out rally for the Warriors in the bottom of the eighth frame with a solo bomb over the right field wall, going 2-for-3 on the day with 1 RBI. But it wasn't over quite yet as next up, Chase would end his career on the Warrior diamond with a home run finishing the day 3-for-5 with two RBI's. The final run would reach on a single by Torres to bring Spillers in for the last run of the day.

The Warriors closed their season recognizing the five seniors and celebrating a program record 10 wins in the 2017 campaign.
