ROCKLIN, Calif. - The William Jessup Warriors played their first road match of the 2017 season taking a reprieve from the heat and heading to Lake Tahoe to take on Sierra Nevada College. Falling behind early in the first half, the Warriors battled in the final 45-minutes but came up short in a 4-1 loss on the road.
In the first 15 minutes of play the both teams made an effort to push the ball forward as the Warriors'
Nikki Perales missed three high and
Yvette Perez one, while Delany Langstaff defended the net with three saves delivered by the Eagles.Â
Sierra Nevada wouldn't wait too long after that, getting on the board first in the 19th minute of play and the early lead, 1-0.
The Warriors would have an opportunity in the 33rd-minute to send the ball in off a corner kick from
Kailee Soares looking to even the score, but they were unable to connect for the advantage.
At the 40th-minute mark, the Eagles would place a shot in the back of the net to make it 2-0 going into the break and strike again just a minute into play in the second half for the 3-0 lead.
Determined to overcome the deficit, the Warriors bounced back with three shot attempts in the next 10 minutes, one barely missing by
Cassidy Gray bouncing off the crossbar.Â
Making the only connection for the Warriors was senior
Marissa Sanders who scored in the 66th minute with a nice set up from freshman
Madison Leonhardt as the ladies trailed 3-1.
The Eagles would seal the deal with the final goal of the game coming in the 71st-minute to take the win 4-1.
"Today's game was not a reflection of the effort these girls have put into the season, however, it was a solid reminder that every game counts, every decision matters, and every player's attitude plays a role on the pitch," head coach
Rachel Constantini stated. "Coach DeLeon has assembled a solid, respectable program over the last few years. We look forward to learning from mistakes made and preparing for the remainder of our preseason schedule."
Heading back to home field advantage, the Warriors will host Oregon Tech on Saturday with a new game time of 7 pm, played under the lights at Rocklin High School.
