Game Recap: Women's Volleyball | | Brie Campbell

Warriors Split on Day One of Menlo Tournament

Vendela Williams Led the Warriors with 21 Total Kills

ROCKLIN, Calif. - The Jessup women's volleyball team traveled to their final tournament for the preseason at Menlo College for a four-game stretch of games over two days. On day one the Warriors split, taking down The University of Johnson & Wales 3-0 and falling to Rocky Mountain College 3-1.

"Today was a good day. We took care of business in our first match. Our focus was to side out and be as consistent as possible offensively, and that's exactly what we did," reflected head coach Shasta Millhollin. "Sadly, we came out flat against Rocky Mountain College. Our serve receive was off which is not something we are used to. We battled back nicely, but came up short in the end."

Starting the day off against the Wildcats, the Warriors took the 3-0 (25-15, 25-13, 25-15) sweep. Leading the attack on the net was Kassidy Heuvelhorst with 9 kills, followed by Vendela Williams (8) all assisted up by returning setter Jessica Williams with 34 assists.

Hoping to carry the momentum of game one through the second match, the Warriors were slow out the gate losing the first two sets, but came back to take set three and a close battle in the fourth but fell 3-1 (10-25, 20-25, 25-19, 18-25).

Continuing her dominance on the net was sophomore Vendela with 13 kills leading the Warriors, accompanied by junior Danielle Schoen (10) and Taylor Jacky (9).

Jessica had a combined 71 assists on the day moving her into the top-5 in the nation for total assists.

"We know that we could have done a better job controlling unforced errors," Millhollin said, "However, we learned a lot from playing a great team. That is what we are focusing on moving forward."

The Warriors will be back in action tomorrow against Providence Christian College at 11 am and Montana State University-Northern at 3 pm.

"The great thing about tournaments is that there are opportunities to play a lot of matches," Millhollin concluded. "We plan on making adjustments tomorrow and coming out on top!"
