FULLERTON, Calif. - Closing out their first conference road series, the Warriors volleyball team finished the two-game trip at Hope International looking to seal their first conference win but fell in three straight sets (17-25, 22-25, 12-25).
Trailing early from a 6-0 run, the Warriors (12-5, 0-3) chipped away at the 6 point lead in the first set to start their own run sparked by a kill by
Danielle Schoen to get within three (17-21), but Hope finished out to take set one, 25-17.
In the second set, Jessup kept pace with the Royals exchanging possessions through the first half of the match showing a shift in momentum from the first set, 16-15 Hope lead. Another late run for the Warriors would give them the first lead of the match with a kill from
Jessica Williams and back-to-back aces for
Alicia Borges from the service line, 20-19. But the Royals would answer back all tied up 22-22 with a pair of kills and an attack error by the Warriors to take it, 25-22, leading 2-0.
The Royals would take the final set, 25-12 to advance to 2-1 in conference play.
A trio of hitters led with five kills each for the Warriors, Schoen,
Sydney Molander and
Makenzie Reeder-Esparza, while
Kassidy Heuvelhorst had 5 blocks followed by Schoen (4) and
Vendela Williams (2) on the net.Â
Jessup returns home for a full week ahead with three matches on the books. They will take on UC Merced on Wednesday on the road, then host back-to-back conference matches against Westmont on Friday (7 pm) for our Fan Friday Giveaway and The Master's University on Saturday (2 pm).
