LA VERNE, Calif. – Despite a strong 68 minutes of play between the visiting Jessup Warriors and host University of La Verne, a solo goal would be the deciding factor as the Leopards came out on top, 1-0.

"Last night was a great battle. We are missing one crucial piece, the ability to find the back of the net,"head coach Rachel Constantini reflected. "Once we believe that we are capable of finishing in front of the goal this team will find the success that it's worked so hard for."

The Leopards outshot the Warriors in the first half, 4-7, but the girls had plenty of opportunities in the second half when the tables turned and the Warriors outshot the La Verne 7-4.

With a strong attack out the gate, the Warriors were led by Yvette Perez (1') and Kailee Soares(8') offensively, and defending the posts was Camille Cavey snagging four saves in just the first 45 minutes. 

The fight was evident with the last 45 before them, capitalizing on multiple opportunities in Leopards territory, the Warriors continued to counter but were unable to break through to the back of the net.

What would be the winning goal came in the 68th minute off a one-verses-one opportunity for the Leopards as Andrea Story scored her first goal of the season.

That next minute the Warriors were awarded a corner kick sent in by Soares.  A solid connection was made by Maria Chacon but was deflected off the goalie's hands, where Soares sent in the second chance shot but missed high. 

The last-chance shot was taken in the last minute missing high as the Warriors fell to the Leopards 1-0.

Continuing their preseason matchups, the Warriors will play an exhibition match against Cal Lutheran on Saturday with kickoff slated for 11 am.
