SANTA CLARITA, Calif. - The Lady Warriors ended their two-game road series at their second nationally ranked competitor in the past three days, No. 15 The Master's University. Continuing to show their strength, the Warriors competed against the ranked opponent but the Mustangs broke away in the final quarter as the Warriors came up short 57-71.
After a stagnant first quarter offensively for the Warriors, it was junior guard
Anisah Smith injecting life back into the team by nailing a first-half buzzer-beating three as the Warriors headed into the locker room trailing the Mustangs by just 6 points. Smith also led all scorers with 17 while also pulling down three rebounds and two assists.
Smith would lead the Warriors at the break with 7 points and continue her offensive spark adding another 10 points in the second half. Her 17 points was the team-high against the Mustangs, while she also pulled down three boards with two assists.
Coming out of the break on a high-note, the Warriors put together a resurgent third quarter scoring 19 points but it wasn't enough as the Mustangs would net 21 of their own as Jessup now trailed by 8 with the final 10-minutes of play ahead of them.
The Mustangs would go on a 9-0 run midway through the final quarter but Sara Vazquez would answer right back hitting a deep three to end the run as the Warriors trailed by 12 with plenty of time left. But a fourth-quarter comeback came up short as the Warriors only scored 11 in the games final frame and the team dropped its second-straight conference game.
Joining Smith in double figures was
Olivia Luu with 11 points and five assists and
Ashlyn Jones also chipped in 10 points and grabbed five rebounds to boot.
The Lady Warriors will be back in action on home court this week, first hosting Vanguard University Thursday at 5:30 PM, followed by Hope International at 1 PM on Saturday in Warrior Arena.
