ROCKLIN, Calif. - It was the Norcal battle as the Warriors hosted Menlo College Saturday afternoon in what would be a scoreless game before the Oaks hit the game-winner in the 74th minute, walking away with the 1-0 lead.
The Warriors struck their opponent's goal with a pair of shots early on from
Johnny Muresan and
Paul Anderson, both missing wide in the first 20 minutes of play. The Oaks answered back as senior
Nick Garcia snagged his first save off of a header in the 23rd minute.
A shot by each team would close out the scoreless first half as
Tanner Federico had the solo shot on goal for the Warriors.
With a total 5 shots between both teams in the opening half, the Oaks and Warriors maximized on the number of shots in the closing half as Menlo had the edge with the 8-7 advantage.
Anderson would lead with another three shots in the second half and Muresan would add a pair, while
Omar Magana and
Nick Tucker had a shot apiece. Garcia finished the game between the posts with a whole 90 minutes behind him and three saves.
The deciding goal would come in the 74th minute as the Oaks took the 1-0 advantage to the finish.
The final regular-season game will be held on Jessup Field next Saturday with the Senior Day Ceremony starting prior to kick-off at 1:30 pm.
