Strong Shooting Earns Warriors the Win

Milan’s momentum shifting jumper propels the Warriors to first conference win.

ROCKLIN, Calif. –  The Warriors began the GSAC conference play with a matchup against Life Pacific College. With the excitement of conference, the Warriors were looking to start off strong. That drive led the Warriors to achieve a 91-66 victory at the final buzzer.

The Warriors got an early lead off a layup by Antonio Lewis. The Warriors had a six-point lead four minutes in, but Life Pacific kept the Warriors on their toes and were able to close the gap. However, with ten minutes remaining, a jumper by Isaiah Milan and a three-point basket by Wilson LaShells changed the pace for the Warriors. Milan solidified that momentum shift with a slam dunk, and, with six minutes left, the Warriors were up, 25-17. Milan and Keith Phillips pushed the Warriors to an even further lead. The half ended with a three-pointer by Tate DeLaVeaga and the Warriors led, 45-30

At the end of the first half, Isaiah Milan led the team with 12 points, 11 of which came in the last ten minutes. The Warriors shot 53.3% on field goals, with 20 points in the paint, and had 22 rebounds.

Milan continued his hot streak in the second half by sinking a three within a minute. Phillips, DeLaVeaga, and Lewis followed suit and each began to rack up points. With six minutes left, the Warriors had a 30 point lead. That lead shrunk slightly, but the Warriors ended the game with a final score of 91-66, Warriors advantage.

Every Warrior on the court put in their all, with 25 points off the bench, and four different players hit double digits. Milan led with 21 points and five assists, but Philips was right behind with 20 points and three assists. DeLaVeaga ended the game with 13 points and Lewis had 10 points with four assists. Philips and Lewis led the team in rebounds, securing 10 each. The Warriors had 42 rebounds overall, 31 defensive and 11 offensive. The Warriors were able to earn 11 points off of those rebounds. The Warriors shone in their outstanding shooting as they had a 50% shooting percentage on field goals, 43.5% on three-pointers, and 77.8% on free throws.
