ROCKLIN, Calif. - On Saturday afternoon the William Jessup volleyball team celebrated senior day, despite losing in straight sets to the Menlo College Oaks, 25-17, 25-12, and 25-21.
In the opening set, the Warriors fell behind early as they trailed 9-2. However, they responded with a 5-0 run forcing an Oaks timeout. The Warriors run was short lived and they would go on to lose the set 25-17.
The second set got away from the Warriors and they were never fully able to bounce back as the Oaks coasted to a 25-12 second set victory.
As the third set commenced the Warriors kept the Oaks at bay going toe-to-toe with them as the initial stages of the set saw several lead changes. For a large portion of the set, for every point Menlo was scoring, Jessup would respond with a run of their own and the Warriors led it late, 17-13. Unfortunately, the lead wouldn't hold and the Oaks would take the match with a 25-21 third set win.
Leading the Warriors in kills was senior
Makenzie Reeder-Esparza with 5 along with 5 from
Kacey Berger and 4 from
Vendela Williams. Williams also had a strong showing from the service line with 4 aces while
Taylor Jacky had two of her own. Jacky would lead with 17 digs and
Brianne Whitt tallied 14 digs and a team-high 11 assists.
This senior day celebration was to honor Reeder-Esparza, and
Sydney Molander. Each dedicated their time to the Warriors with phenomenal contributions to Jessup Athletics.
