Warriors Handle Business Against Former Cal-Pac Rival

Hagerty and Smith led the Warriors in double figures

ROCKLIN, Calif. - The Warriors won their third consecutive game as they took down the Cal Maritime Keelhaulers 69-45 on Saturday night, advancing to 12-2 overall.

The first was an offensive fireworks show as the Warriors lit up the scoreboard, as Anisah Smith scored the first points within three seconds of the opening tip. The Warriors would eventually jump out to a 12-2 lead and would keep a ten point lead going into the second quarter up 24-14.

While it was the offense that stood out in the first quarter, the stout defense from the Warriors during the second quarter was nothing short of spectacular. After allowing the first three points of the quarter, the Warriors held the Keelhaulers scoreless for the remaining 8:27, as their opponent shot 1-15 from the field to close out the half. After two quarters of play, the Warriors led 40-17.

Head coach Kurt Westendorp praised his team's defensive showing, as he said, "This was one of the best efforts we've had all season." He continued by saying, "We played very good team defense and played a step ahead of the offense almost all night."

Perhaps the most eye-popping stat of the night was all fourteen made field goals by the Warriors came off an assist. A feat that is rarely reached at any level of basketball, all while only having four turnovers.

Coach Westendorp remarked that this was the key stat from the first half, and added that "it's almost unheard of in today's game."

During the third quarter, the Warriors continued to pile up the points and play outstanding defense as they held the Keelhaulers to a mere 6 third quarter points. By the time the fourth quarter began the Warriors were up 56-24. After putting on a great performance from start to finish, the Warriors came away victorious 69-45 over their former Cal-Pac rival.

Overall it was a balanced scoring attack as Lily Hagerty led with 15 points and Anisah Smith finished with 13. Miranda Zaragoza's presence in the post was unmatched tonight as she posted a game-high 10 rebounds, it's her third straight game with 10 or more rebounds.

Coach Westendorp shared that, "we played with great rhythm tonight on offense." He went on to say, "The way we attacked and made the extra pass led to great looks. We made our teammates look good with how we shared the ball."

The Warriors will hit the road for two games to start the new year as they take on The Masters University and Westmont College on January 3 and 5 before returning back on to host Vanguard University on January 10.
