ROCKLIN, Calif. - Coming off three-conference road wins, the Warriors returned to home court to take on the second-best ranked team in the country, The Master's University. Slow out the gate, the Warriors struggled to gain momentum losing to the undefeated Mustangs in GSAC play, 99-81.
It was
Tate DeLaVeaga that got things going for the Warriors early with the first two buckets with five points, but the Mustang's 16-5 lead needed sparks from multiple in the white and red to chip away at the gap.
Down by 12 with less than 5-minutes remaining in the first half, DeLaVeaga went 4-4 from the stripe to cut the lead to under double figures, 38-32 and
Antonio Lewis would force the Mustang's smallest lead of the night to 6 with a three-pointer.
Exchanging baskets through the remainder of the half, the Warriors headed into the break down 45-36 with plenty of time on the clock, and have had a comeback by much more in previous GSAC matchups.
With a full 20-minutes ahead of them, the Warriors continued to battle, but the Mustangs continued to maintain the lead pushing it to as much as 21-points midway through the final half.
Answering with an 11-4 run and a late 6-2 run with three minutes remaining, the Warriors cut the lead to single digits but the Mustangs powered through the finish with their own 8-0 run to answer back and take the victory 99-81.
Continuing his twenty plus appearances was
Keith Phillips leading the Warriors with 23 points and 7 rebounds and teammate
Brandon Lindsey closing out with 18 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists. Also in double figures for the Warriors was DeLaVeaga (17), Lewis (11) and Rakoz (10).
The Warriors will have a quick turnaround and face their second ranked opponent of the week on Saturday in Westmont College for Salute Service Day at 3 pm. We invite all those that are dedicated to the community working in public service to join us as we honor you for your hard work to protect our cities near and wide.
