WEST COVINA, Calif. - Closing out the SoCal Classic after over 10 hours of softball on Saturday, the Warriors finished 4-1 for the weekend. In the final day of competition, the Warriors beat Marymount California (6-0) and Carroll College (10-7) in a comeback seventh inning and lost their final matchup with Norwest Christian (14-10) now 8-3 overall for the season, the second-best start in program history.
GAME 1
The Warriors started the day behind
Shelbi Graifman in the circle collecting her fifth win of the season with a complete seven innings pitched only allowing one hit and sending sitting five down.
Offensively continuing their spark set by clinching three wins the day before, the Warriors continued against Marymount scoring in all six appearances except two. In the first inning, Graifman helped herself bringing in
Corina Salinas with a fielders choice.
In the second inning,
Jenna Patterson would start her success for the day advancing the runner,
Jena Ovens to scoring position while coming in to score on a throwing error. In the fourth inning Patterson doubled down the leftfield line to score Graifman and again the sixth reached on an error to score Graifman again.
In the Warriors final offensive inning,
Joslyn Beliera also singled to bring in
Kaylee Surrell and
Stephanie Scott had a sac-fly to score Patterson who beat the throw.
The Warriors took game one 6-0 with an impressive start to the day.
GAME 2
In game two the Warriors had to play some catch up against Carroll as they trailed 7-5 in the bottom the top of the seventh inning.
Graifman would come in for
Brooke Sarro in the first inning as Carroll took the 4-0 lead after the first inning. Ovens brought in the solo run in the top of the second to answer back with a homer over the centerfield fence and Salinas would nab her own bomb in the following inning taking it to right center. The Warriors would still trail after the third inning 5-4 with Ovens bringing in another run with a single.
In the final opportunity for the Warriors to post runs on the board Ovens continued her dominance in the box sending another one over the wall, this time to left field as the Warriors trailed by just one, 6-7.
The five-run inning rally would continue with Garoutte singling to bring in Beliera, followed by a pair of doubles by Salinas and Lewis, 9-7. The final run would come in with an RBI single by
Natalie Basaldua as the Warriors came back to defeat Carroll 10-7.
GAME 3
With the game slated for 6 pm, the Warriors wouldn't hit the field until almost 9 pm to take on their last competitor in Northwest Christian.
The Warriors would light up the board first from none other than Ovens who doubled down the leftfield line to score Lewis, but the Beacons would answer back with a pair of runs in the following two innings to go up 4-1.
Salinas and Lewis would tie it up in the top of the fourth each with a double to bring in a run, but back-to-back homers and a six-run inning would push Northwest Christian to a 10-4 advantage with the Warriors up in the bottom of the fifth.
Another familiar face in the box was Garoutte who hit a double in the fifth to bring in Patterson and Beliera followed with a single to bring in Graifman as the Warriors closed the gap, now 10-7 Beacons lead.
Closing out the home run hitters was
Raechel Hooper who sent a two-run homer over the left field fence in the bottom of the sixth and Garoutte in the bottom of the seventh.
The Warriors would come close but too short to go undefeated on the weekend, losing the final game of the Classic 14-10.
