Graifman Tallies Career-High Strikeouts in Split with Pioneers

Warriors defeat the Pioneers 8-0 in game one

ROCKLIN, Calif. - The Warriors returned to the diamond for their first matchup of the weekend against the University of Antelope Valley. It would be a short game one with the Warriors run-ruling the Pioneers in the bottom of the fifth inning with an 8-0 victory, but the Pioneers would bounce back taking game two, 4-2 for a series split.

GAME 1
Starting things off early, the Warriors put the first runs on the board in the bottom of the second when Taya Ruiz brought in Jenna Patterson with a double through the left side for the 1-0 advantage.

In the bottom of the next frame, the Warriors would pick up where they left off as Corina Salinas led with a single to center, followed by a stolen base to soon be brought in off a single by Natalie Basaldua. Raechel Hooper would hit the box with the bases loaded and walk her way to first for the Warriors up 3-0 with no outs. Jena Ovens would bring one in followed by Ruiz tabbing her second double of the game as the Warriors took a 6-0 lead into the third inning.

The final two runs would come in the bottom of the fifth with Ruiz singling to score Stephanie Scott and the run to end the game would come from Salinas' single to left field to bring in Ruiz.

Ruiz would close out game one leading the Warriors in the box going 3-3 with two doubles and 3RBI's, followed by Salinas (3-4, 1RBI) and Patterson (2-2, 1RBI). Starting in the circle and collecting her 7th win of the season was Shelbi Graifman who had 8 strikeouts.

GAME 2
The roles would switch in game two as the Pioneers took the first lead in the opening frame with a two-run homer to left field. They would add another run in the top of the fourth and again in the fifth with their second long ball over the fence to go up 4-0.

The Warriors would answer back in the fifth as Corina Salinas answered the Pioneers home run cycle with her own to right field and Ovens would bring in another run in the bottom of the sixth with a double to score Graifman. Despite the efforts, the Warriors couldn't bounce back and fell 4-2.

Graifman had a career-high 15 strikeouts in the 26 batters faced in her seven-inning outing, now 7-3 overall.

The Warriors will return to Azevedo Park on Saturday for a doubleheader against Oregon Tech starting at 12 pm.
