Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Brie Campbell

Seniors Sent Off in Late Comeback

Lindsey with back-to-back career-high outings, Saturday with 32 points

ROCKLIN, Calif. - Four seniors of the men's basketball team would play in what would be their final game on Horton Court and were recognized in a pre-game ceremony before taking on their final regular-season conference opponent Arizona Christian.

"I truly appreciate each of our seniors who have given so much to build our program brick by brick each and every day," Head coach for all seniors throughout their career Lance Von Vogt said. "On the efforts of these seniors, we have set a standard here at Jessup that we will build from.  The seniors here have participated in the GSAC championships and been nationally ranked every season they've been on campus. More importantly, they are great human beings who I see doing amazing things for the community and The Kingdom after graduation later this year."

The Warriors recognized PJ Posey and Brandon Ruffin, who played one season for the Warriors and Jayvon Stone and Brennan Rakoz who both played two seasons.

Von Vogt added, "These men can hold their heads up high and know they have been ordained by the highest One for every future circumstance they encounter and that's the awesome thing about Jessup. We are edifying men for Christ and for me, basketball is the gateway to that relationship. I can see great things ahead for each one of these seniors."

The Warriors would jump to an early lead in the first minutes of play but the visiting Firestorm would continue to fight back to even the score at 15 all just a little more than 5 minutes into the first half. They would continue that flight with a 9-point lead at the midway point and while the Warriors tried to counter baskets on the other end, Arizona would take the 48-31 advantage into the locker room at the break.

Brandon Lindsey was one of five scorers in the first 20-minutes of play, all in single digits besides Lindsey's 15 points. The starting sophomore point guard, coming over a career-high 26 points, continued to push the limits with 32 points setting a new high and third best in program history for a single game.

Continuing their double-digit lead through the second quarter, the Warriors would be down by as much as 26-points with 13:20 remaining in regulation, but Jessup would continue to fight and rally back in the next three minutes with a 14-4 run.

Cutting the lead to single digits (9) with just under two minutes remaining, the Warriors would match basket-for-basket with the Firestorm down the stretch, unable to regain the lead to fall 97-87 in their final game at home.

Also posting double-digits alongside Lindsey for the night was Keith Phillips with a double-double, 15 points and 10 rebounds, Luis Medearis with 14 points and Tate DeLaVeaga with 12.

With just a week before the first GSAC Conference Tournament games, the Warriors will rest up and head to Arizona Christian next week looking to clinch a win for the program-best record in history and continue on for another shot at the National tournament.
