Jones Makes History in Record-Setting Senior Game

The Warriors closed the season honoring five seniors on Horton Court

ROCKLIN, Calif. - The Warriors took Horton Court for the last time this season welcoming Arizona Christian for senior day. It was a tight race through the entirety of the game as the Warriors trailed the Firestorm at the half by just a single possession, but three-throws down the stretch would turn in ACU's favor taking the 80-76 victory closing the Warriors season at 13-10, 4-6.

Jessup would send-off five seniors in style with a pre-game ceremony in front of family, friends, teammates and Warrior nation to honor those in closing out their career in the red, white and blue uniform; Ashlyn Jones, Leilua Iosia, Iesha Mejorado, Sara Vasquez and Janelle Luu.

Arizona would take their largest lead with just under four minutes remaining in the first quarter of 9 points, but the Warriors would chip away at the lead with a 7-0 run to get within two points. The Firestorm would score an easy bucket to extend it back to four points, but Lily Hagerty went 2-for-2 from the stripe with just 10 seconds left to make it a one-possession ballgame.

Taking their first lead of the game in the second quarter, Sara Vasquez would hit a long-ball three from Hagerty to tie it up at 21 each and Anisah Smith would be fouled by nail the jumper for the go-ahead bucket and free-throw 24-21.

Capping their lead at seven with a three from senior Ashlyn Jones halfway through the second quarter, Arizona would catch fire and exchange leads with the Warriors five times to close the first half, the Firestorm with the slight advantage, 40-38.

Going out with a bang was Jones who led the Warriors at the break with 14 points and continued that offensive surge with a career-high 29 points on the night concluding her career in the red and blue. With her 29-points on the night, Jones totaled 971 career points for the Warriors, second-best all-time scorer in program history.

The Firestorm would continue their lead through the third quarter, headed into the final 10-minutes of play with a seven-point deficit.

But with just three minutes remaining in regulation the Warriors cut the lead to four and although the Firestorm would continue to answer back, the Warriors continued to fight with Hagerty getting one from beyond the arc with a minute remaining.

Three made free throws would decide the Warriors' fate, but a final shot by Jones would go in at the buzzer to soften Arizona's lead and victory, 80-76.

Also leading the Warriors in double figures on the night to accompany Jones (29) was Hagerty (13), Smith (12) and Emilee VanDyke (10).
