Warriors Knock Down a Pair of Eagles on Day 1

WEST COVINA, Calif. -  The Lady Warriors hit the diamond for their first set of road games this weekend at the SoCal Classic with games against La Sierra and former GSAC competitor Biola University. In each contest, the Warriors would jump ahead early and take the lead to the finish beating the pair of Eagles 12-5 and 9-4 to advance to 6-2 overall.

GAME 1
Getting things started for the day was sophomore Natalie Basaldua who brought in her first of five RBI's in the first inning with a double down the left field line to score Abbie Lewis from first.

The Eagles would answer back in the bottom of the frame against starting pitcher Brooke Sarro to even the score headed to the second inning.

But it wouldn't take long for the Warriors to light up the scoreboard again adding another 3 runs led by Jenna Patterson who doubled and came around to score from a single my Mikayla Laymance. Corina Salinas would keep the train rolling with a single, followed by Basaldua to make it 4-1.

Another three runs would be posted for the Eagles in the bottom of the second, third and fifth to take the 5-4 lead with two innings to go.

The top of the sixth would bring life to the Warriors as they posted 6 runs, with another pair to follow in the seventh. Graifman would close-out the final two innings with 4 strikeouts in her 6 batters faced.

Sarro led the Warriors in the circle for her second win of the season, with an offensive surge from Basaldua going 4-for-5 with 5 RBIs, Jena Ovens (2-4), Laymance (2-4) and Raechel Hooper bringing in three runs.

The Warriors would win with a final score of 12-5 over the La Sierra Eagles.

GAME 2
The pace was set from the top of the first inning as Salinas broke open the game with a double, followed by a pair of walks to load the bases with one out. Junior Ovens would light up the scoreboard with a grand slam over the left field fence as the Warriors started things off with a 4-0 lead.

The Eagles would answer back in the bottom of the frame with their own three-run homer over the same fence to make it 4-3, and that would be carried through the fifth inning.

Starting where she left off in game one, Graifman pitched a complete game allowing just four runs on four hits with seven strikeouts. This was Graifmans fourth win of the season in her six appearances.

Another run would come in for Jessup in the sixth as the bases were loaded and Salinas was walked to bring in Patterson. The Eagles would answer with their own run in the following frame to make it 7-4 Jessup's lead.

In the top of the seventh Taya Ruiz would step into the box for Stephanie Scott and hit a single to left to bring in two runs for the final score of 9-4.

The Warriors will have a trio of games Saturday starting with Marymount California University(12 pm), Carroll University (2 pm) and Northwest Christian to close the Socal Classic at 6 pm.
