Warriors Outlast Hawks Late Comeback, 14-10

No. 6 Warriors continue on 12-game conference winning streak

EL CAJON, Calif. - Riding an 11-game GSAC win streak, the Warriors were wheels up to conference foe San Diego Christian for a three-game series looking for their 30th win of the season. Moving on up the rankings this week, the No. 6 Warriors clinched that victory 14-10 over the Hawks advancing to 30-6, 20-2.

The Warriors didn't waste any time getting on the board posting 9 runs in the first inning before the Hawks silenced their bats for a single frame before they picked right back up where they left off with another four-innings of runs.

A pair of singles and double would load the bases for the first three batters to start the game as Cal Koga stepped in the box with a 2 RBI single to bring the first two runs across the plate. Another run would follow as Austen Swift scored on a Hawk's error and Steve Pastora brought across the final run of the inning, 4-0.

Sam Curtis would pick things right back up in the bottom of the second with a double, coming in to score on the single by Kawai Takemura. Hitting the first home run of the game and his 11th of the season, Will Law cleared the bases with a 2-run straight shot over the centerfield wall for the 7-0 lead. The following bottom half of the third would add another two runs to the board compliments of Josh Duitsman sending a bomb over the right-field wall to score himself and Pastora who doubled for the 9-0 advantage.

San Diego Christian led the fourth inning off with a triple and a sacrifice fly would score their first run of the game.

The following frame would go silent for the Warrior bats, but Koga would start things off again in the top of the fifth with a double and Joe Starick singled for two runners on as Pastora would bring another one across to make it 10-0.

Speed was in Curtis' favor again as he led the fifth with another single and a stolen base, coming into score on Takemura's hit up the middle. Law would follow to get on base as Takemura made his way around the bases, scoring on a sacrifice fly from Koga at the plate.

The Hawks would push another across in the next inning and Pastora would answer back with a solo shot to left center, Warriors now lead 13-2. But they would continue to battle as the starter for the Warriors, Tristan Prybylinski would allow five runs on three hits in the sixth still leading 13-7. After 6.2 innings pitched Prybylinski retired but earned his 5th win of the season with five strikeouts.

"I thought Tristan was really good today," head coach Jake McKinley said. "He caught some unlucky breaks late in his outing but he put us in a position to win the game and set a momentous tone for the rest of the series."

The final run for the Warriors would cross in the top of the eighth with a single from Starick to score Law. A last chance inning for the Hawks would come up short as they scored their final three runs of the game with a home run.

The series will continue tomorrow with the final two games as the Warriors look to continue their success in conference matchups. McKinley said, "We just need to play one pitch at a time tomorrow and find a way to win the game in front of us. I'm confident our players will come out and be ready to compete."
